DSS Arrest Suspect Reportedly Plotting To Bomb NASS

A 35-year-old man, Godwin Adeoye, who was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly planning to bomb the National Assembly and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been sentenced to two years in prison for the offence.

The suspect was sentenced on Wednesday, July 22, by a chief magistrate court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi state, Daily Trust reported.

Adeoye was reportedly arrested by the DSS on May 13 and charged to court for alleged intimidation and threat to bomb national assets.

The presiding magistrate, Ibrahim, said the suspect was sober and pleaded for clemency after realising the enormity of the situation.

The court then sentenced the suspect to two-year imprisonment with an option of fine.

Anaedoonline.ng reported that Nigerian has adjourned plenary till September 15 to enable its members to begin their annual summer vacation.

According to reports, Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, on Thursday, July 23, announced this after an extended sitting of the upper chamber in Abuja.

Anaedoonline.ng gathered that Lawan said despite the break, the various committees of the Senate would be working and available “to attend to urgent matters that require their attention.”

The Senate president directed the committee on finance to work with the minister of finance, budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed, to prepare the 2021 Appropriation Bill.

He said the Senate hoped that the executive will, apart from the presentation of the 2021 budget estimates, forward to it the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) for consideration and passage.

Anaedoonline.ng had previously reported that the Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) called on President Muhammadu Buhari to heed the Nigerian Senate’s advice to sack the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

It was reported that the Nigerian Senate had on Thursday, July 23, asked the president to as a matter of urgency sack the Professor Kemebradikuom Pondei-led interim Management Committee of the NDDC over alleged financial recklessness.
