The Woman Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State Chapter, Selina Adibua, has advised those agitating for a sovereign State of Biafra to sheath their sword, as it has become an ideology rather than a fight.

The chieftain, who was a one time National Vice Chairman of the apex Igbo sociocultural organisation, said that it is only those who did not witness the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War in 1967 that would forcefully clamour for a sovereign state.

Adibua also bared her mind on the issue of an Igbo president, ahead of the election in 2023.

The chieftain who during an exclusive interview, said that it will not be possible to have independence as it is now unless there is a fight.

“It is not possible to have Biafra at all unless we fight,” she said.

The woman leader posited that instead of spoiling for a separate state or for a fight, the agitators should rather stay and fight within Nigeria as the Black Americans did in the United States of America.

“We’ll not leave Nigeria. We shall stay and fight for our right. The Black Americans fought inside America. They did not fight for a separate state,” she points out.

She spoke of how several Igbo sons and daughters were gruesomely killed in the North and brought home on trains for mass burial.

She advised against a repeat of a similar horrendous experience.

“Those who did not see Biafra war are clamouring for a separate state. They did not see so many families who were buried alive to save the North from wasting bullets.

” We want Biafra but it is an ideology. Americans and Britons will not help you. They will not. Instead they will sell guns to you. We do not have the sympathy of the world like we had it in the 60s,” she said.

On Ndigbo and the push for 2023 presidency, she said “what Nigerians did for the South West in 1999 that produced Obasanjo should be done to produce an Igbo president.

She said it was most desirable that Ndigbo are given the chance to produce the next president of Nigeria for equity’ sake.

She maintained that the issue of competence is out of the question as Ndigbo have more than 4,000 people who are qualified for president, adding that Ndigbo are more Nigerians than any other ethnic group in the country.

“Nobody can claim to be more Nigerian than the Igbos. With Igbo president, Nigeria will be better because Igbos are considerate. They will not take and take and will not allow others not to take.” She said.
