Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has called on all religious groups and leaders in the State to offer prayers to God on behalf of the country, Nigeria, as she turns 60; and for Anambra, that has just celebrated 29.

The governor was speaking on the occasion of a special thanksgiving service organized by Anambra state government, to mark Nigeria’s sixtieth independence anniversary, held at Cathedral of Saint Faith, Awka.

He said that with the array of brilliant people in Nigeria the nation’s glorious destiny is still attainable despite trials and setbacks. To butress his point, he cited God’s promise Abraham that he would spare the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, should ten good people be found therein.

The governor who is optimistic that there must be some good people in Nigeria then called on all religious groups to keep praying that things will get better in the country and by extension in our state, and that God will be kind to hear our prayers and save our land.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Gov. Obiano also thanked God for the gift of good leaders that He has blessed Anambra state with, observing that it was through the good stewardship of such dogged leaders that Anambra has been making steady progress at just 29 years of its creation from the old Anambra State.

Going further, Prof.Chukwulobelu observed that as a state ndi-Anambra have reasons to appreciate Gov. Willie Obiano, for his wonderful efforts on security of lives and property as Anambra is today recorded as the most secured state of the nation.

He also reminded ndi Anambra that recently the state was declared to have the least unemployment rate in the country and also as the most fiscally stable state in the nation after Rivers.

This 60th independent anniversary thanksgiving service was presided over by the Archbishop of the Province on the Niger and Bishop of Awka Anglican Diocese, Most Revd Dr. Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim.

The prelate who did not mince words in addressing the poor state of the nation and its state of hopelessness called our leaders to sit up to their responsibilities as the elected representatives and leaders who are elected to secure the land and her people.

He further observed that killings and asasinations, insecurity, armed robbery, rituals, 419, illegal accumulation of wealth, forgery and a host of other crimes have made Nigeria to look like a child that has fallen into a deep pit.

The archbishop later prayed for the country and her leaders and for Anambra.
