Mesut Ozil will not be part of the Arsenal squad that will prosecute the Europa League competition this season after the German was not named in the 25-man squad.

Despite earning £350,000 ($454,000) a week as the highest earner at the club, Ozil is one of two senior players who has been cut by boss Mikel Arteta.

The Arsenal manager is left with no choice than to make such a decision as the club has 19 non locally trained players, but Europa League requires 17.

GOAL are also reporting that defender Sokratis has also been left out of the squad, with Ozil yet to feature in any game since football returned after the lockdown.

The situation doesn’t change as the German remains the club’s highest earner but Arteta is hoping to give some match time to other stars who have not been regular in the Premier League.

And this is coming just a day after the German publicly stated that he will pay Jerry Quy, the man who has played the role of Gunnersaurus – the Arsenal mascot who was earlier relieved of his job due to lack of fans.

Ozil who recently accepted pay cut in his wages stated that he will continue to pay the mascot for as long as he remains a Gunner. He said:

“I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous and loyal mascot Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years.

“As such, I’m offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much.”

His last game for Arsenal was in their win over West Ham, the final Premier League game before football was suspended in March.
