The Governor Willie Obiano has called for more positive actions towards ensuring uninterrupted power supply in Nigeria for improved industrial production.

Governor Obiano made the call while flagging off the Anambra state National Gas Expansion Programme consultative forum organized by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, office of the Minister of state, National Gas Expansion Programme Committee at Golden Tulip Hotels Agulu Lake, Anaocha Council area.

The Consultative Forum is aimed at convincing Ndi Anambra to key into the National Gas Expansion Programme of the federal government which is geared towards providing car and generator owners with an alternative to fuel as the price of the petrol continue to rise.

The National Gas Expansion Programme is all about helping Nigerians to convert their vehicles, generators and other engines to operate with gas instead of fuel to cushion the effects of fuel scarcity and hike in price on the citizenry.

In his remarks, Governor Willie Obiano represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke who described the initiative as a welcome development, urged the committee in charge of the programme to match their words with action in order to make things easier for Nigerians.

The Governor assured the team the full support of the state to the programme, saying that such will improve productivity in industries in Anambra, as according to him power is the major challenge facing industries in the state.

In earlier in his address, the Chairman National Gas Expansion Programme, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed who represented Minister of State Petroleum Resources at the event, said that the objective of the programme is to reinforce and expand gas supply as well as stimulate demand in the country through the effective and efficient mobilization of all available assets, resources and infrastructure in the country.

The Governor in company of the federal government’s committee on the NGEP later inspected vehicles and generators already converted to gas usage.
