Sports writers in the South East geopolitical zone under the umbrella of Sports writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, have commended the Abia State Government under the leadership of Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, PhD, for its resounding achievements in sports.
In a communique issued at the end of its one-day zonal executive meeting held at the Archbishop A.K. Obiefuna Pastoral Centre, Awka, Anambra State, SWAN applauded Abia State for assisting two clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League and for setting the pace in grassroot sports development in the zone.

Also lauded were the governments of Anambra, Imo and Ebonyi States for upgrading and building new sports infrastructures in their respective states.

On the forthcoming National Sports Festival EDO 2020, South East SWAN expressed regret that most of the states in the zone were non chalant about giving their athletes adequate preparations for the games but lauded Anambra State for camping her athletes even after the sports fiesta was postponed.
SWAN also urged sports writers who were yet to register with the body to do so without further delay and to subscribe to the continental body,AIPS,to aid them perform better as professional sports writers.
