Top level sources in the All Progressive Congress, APC say, factions existing in some states, particularly in Imo State, risks expulsion.

There has been a cold war in Imo APC for a long period with Senator Rochas Okorocha backed Daniel Nwafor faction up against Governor Hope Uzodimma backed caretaker Committee led by Marcellinus Nlemigbo.

The Nwafor faction insists that it is the legitimate State Executive of the party on the basis of a subsisting order of the Court of Appeal.

The faction had vowed to stay away from the ongoing APC membership registration and revalidation which has kicked off in the State.

Sources were informed at the weekend that Nwafor faction may now face expulsion, after dragging the Mai Mala Buni led caretaker Committee to court.

Nwafor had said last week that it has also dragged Buni caretaker Committee to court over the ongoing registration and revalidation of members in the State.

A party source tsaidthat based on the unfolding development, the party leadership may consider invoking a section of the Party Constitution on expulsion of “recalcitrant members”, not only in Imo but in other States where factions have dragged the party to Court.

He revealed that Article 21 V of APC Constitution 2014 is clear on penalty for those who dragged the party to Court.

Part of the article reads “Any member who files an action in court of law against the party or any of its officers on any matter or matters relating to the discharge of the duties of the party without first exhausting the avenues for redress provided for in this constitution shall automatically stand expelled from the party on filing such action and no appeal against expulsion as stipulated in this clause shall be entertained until the withdrawal of the action from court by the member.”

The source said ” In Imo APC and in other states, we have made it clear that the State Governor is the undisputed leader of the party, and in a State without a state governor, the highest ranking public office holder leads the party. You can see the matter is as good as settled.
