The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited the President of cattle and foodstuff dealers under the aegis of the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) for questioning.

This is after the group has banned the movement of food, cattle from North to South, to protest extortion of its members from the Nigerian military and payment of N475 billion compensation for lives of members and property lost during the #EndSARS protest and the Shasa market crisis in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The group is also demanding the dismantling of all roadblocks on federal highways where its members are allegedly harassed and extorted by security operatives.

At a press briefing on Monday, AUFCDN general secretary Ahmed Alaramma said the association’s president Mohammed Tahir was with the DSS.

Mr Alaramma said the military were intimidating the union’s members and task force, adding that the Federal Government should avert looming chaos by stopping the intimidation of its members.

Butchers in the south who still have stock have capitalised on the strike to hike prices. Dealers in perishable food items shipped from the north have also leveraged it.

However, in a related story, the leadership of the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AFUCDN) has given the Federal Government till February 24 to address their demands or face total withdrawal of their services.

Tears As Fire Razes Shops. Goods Worth Millions Destroyed

The union, which is an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) with over 35 affiliate groups, said it had already submitted a notice of their impending action to the Federal Government and security agencies.

Addressing reporters in Abuja on Sunday, the Secretary-General of AFUCDN, Ahmed Alarama, said they were worried about the incessant attacks on their members and properties across the 36 states of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

He referred to the recent violence that erupted in Shasha in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he alleged some of their members were killed and properties destroyed.
