IGP Laments Over High Rate In Burning Of Police Stations

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, has described attacks on police stations in the Southeast Geo-political Zone as a recipe for disaster.

The Police boss who stated this at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, Awka, during a Security Summit/Interaction with security agencies and stakeholders in Anambra State, expressed dismay with the way and manner police stations were attacked and officers and men killed in the process.

The IGP who was represented at the event by the Deputy Inspector General in-charge of Finance Zone 13, DIG Joseph Egbunike, stressed the need for peace and unity of purpose, even as he commended the Anambra State Government for making the state one of the most peaceful and safest in the country.

He charged the officers of the command to rise up to the challenges of crimes and criminality in all nooks and crannies of the state, admonishing them to shun laxity, conspiracy and indolence, while acknowledging that there were still diligent and dutiful police officers.

The IGP mandated the Commissioner of Police to call for regular meetings with the vigilante groups and security stakeholders at the command’s headquarters to enable them to forge a common front. The Inspector General of Police while harping on synergy also charged the CP to interface with the drug dealers and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

‘Cultism can be nipped in the bud if there is no conspiracy. Officers and men should do their best. One of the bastions of our successes are vigilante group. There should be vehicles for them. I owe a duty to Anambra. It is my constituency. South Eastern states should emulate Anambra. Ndi Igbo are Spartan in nature. An average Anambra man is a hardworking person,’ the IGP said.

Mr. Adamu lauded Governor Willie Obiano on the issue of EndSARS protest, saying the role played by the governor helped in no small measure in calming the youths and channeling their minds into something more meaningful and rewarding.
