EPL: Lingard Reveals Who Advised Him To Join West Ham

Manchester United forward, Jesse Lingard has revealed that it was England coach, Gareth Southgate who advised him to leave the club on loan to West Ham.

According to the 28-year-old, Southgate told him that he would be better off staying in the Premier League if he left Old Trafford

United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not feature Lingard in a single Premier League game in 2020-21 before the player made a temporary switch to West Ham in January.

And now the England International has hit the ground running scoring five goals and providing two assists in his first seven league games which helped him earn a recall to the England squad.

“He’s shown a lot of support and belief in me, he gave me my England debut, which I’m proud of,” Lingard told talkSPORT of Southgate.

“I still kept in contact with him even though I wasn’t playing, just to get his advice on what I should do. It was just about the right move, whether it was going out to Europe or staying in the Premier League.

“He said, ‘If I was you, I would stay in the Premier League. After that, it was about finding a Premier League side and West Ham fitted in perfectly.”

Anaedoonline.ng reported that West Ham agreed on a deal to take Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard on loan for the remainder of the season.

Before the transfer, Lingard fall down the pecking order at Old Trafford, failing to make a Premier League appearance this season, and was looking to secure a move away to get more first-team minutes.

It is understood Newcastle and West Brom approached Lingard’s representatives about taking the out-of-favour England international on loan, but the 28-year-old rejected their offers.

The total cost of a potential deal is thought to be more than £3m, taking into account the loan fee and Lingard’s wages.
