The gunmen invaded the community and were shooting sporadically before gunning down the priest.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Anene Sewuese Catherine stated that she was yet to receive an official report on the incident.

“I can’t confirm it now because we are yet to receive an official report in that regard.

“When the report arrives, I will get back to you”, she said.

Reacting to this Ortom described the attack as mindless and wondered why a harmless priest would become the target of armed men.

He, therefore, reassured the people of Katsina-Ala and Sankera in general that the State Government will not relent until those responsible for the killing and other attacks in that part of the state are brought to justice.

Ortom reaffirmed the resolve of his administration not to handover the state to criminals and urges Benue people to continue to support security operatives with timely and useful information.
