Thousands of inmates who were freed by hoodlums and gunmen from the Owerri correctional facility, on Monday, littered the streets of Owerri with their luggage.
ANAEDOONLINE visited the Owerri correctional center located along Okigwe road and saw bags of different sizes even religious books as well as writing materials, clothes of both males and females were seen on the roadsides, at the front of the correctional center.

Other street languages of the fleeing inmates were visibly seen included; Wethedral, Assumpta, and front of Imo government house. Some eyewitnesses who spoke to ANAEDOONLINE said that “The inmates decided to abandon their properties because they think with the bag they can be located easily and some of the bags were heavy for them to carry them and run at the same time.”

Information reaching Anaedoonline.ng reveals that Imo State Police Headquarters and Prisons are currently on fire, as well setting over 1500 inmates free.
It was revealed that some unknown gunmen attacked the station at the wee hours of the night.
The attackers razed the Imo State Police Command headquarters situated in Owerri and burnt almost all the vehicles parked at the command headquarters.
The hoodlums freed all the suspects in almost all the cells at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the police command.
The gunmen operated from 1 am till 3 am on Tuesday.
They sang solidarity songs at the Government House roundabout for about 30 minutes before attacking the facilities, a security source confided in our correspondent.
On breaking into the prison facility with the aid of explosives and dynamite, the attackers told inmates, “Go home, Jesus has risen. You have no reason to be here.”
When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the attacks.

He, however, assured the people of the state that the security agencies were on top of the matter.
