Chief Of Staff ‘Primus Odili’ Reveals When Anambra Airport Will Be Commissioned

The Chief of Staff of the Anambra State Government, Mr. Primus Ugochukwu Odili says Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport awaits commissioning in July this year.

Odili said contrary to negative propaganda in the social media that the airport was commissioned on 30th April this year, he said what happened on the afore stated day was a test-run of the runway to ascertain whether it was fit enough for aircraft to land and takeoff.

Odili who stated this while engaging a select journalist in Awka on what the airport portends for the entire southeast region maintained that test-run of facilities were series of routine checks before an airport was commissioned for public use.

He further disclosed that a lot of tests had taken place at the airport before the event of April 30th; that the NCAA had carried out tests on the runway to ascertain its quality prior to the actual test-run of the airport.

The Chief of Staff, therefore, noted that the importance of the airport can not be overstressed as it would boost the Internally-Generated Revenue of the state, help traders from the state transport their goods and services as well as a host of other benefits which he said can not be quantified in monetary terms.

According to him, the economic value of the airport was too numerous to mention because he believed that Onitsha Main Market acclaimed to be the largest market in West Africa was the final destination for cargoes from Lagos, Rivers, Cross River and some others.

The Chief of Staff emphasized that with the existence of a cargo airport in Anambra state, all the cargoes will come indirectly into the state at very reduced cost.

Although he said he would not want to delve into the politics of the age-long Onitsha sea port but maintained that the International Cargo and Passenger Airport at Umueri was a viable option for Ndi-Anambra which he said Governor Willie Obiano made possible.

Odili said second term for most governors was a time for them to steal and syphone public money but Governor Willie Obiano has persistently pursued the completion of the airport and saw to its fruition, adding that a 12000 capacity International Conference Centre, a FIFA Standard Stadium in Awka and other legacy projects will be delivered to Ndi-Anambra in the next couple of months.
