Northern Leaders Kicks Over Ban On Open Grazing By Southern Governors

The north is not happy with the decision of Southern Governors to ban open cattle grazing in the entire 17 southern states of the country. Prof. Usman Yusuf, former executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), blamed the southern governors for not consulting with Fulani leaders before they made such decision, Anaedoonline.ng reports.

He disclosed this when he appeared on AIT breakfast show, Kakaaki. He said:

“Southern governors must provide land for Fulani herders to graze their cattle if they want to ban open grazing. Gathering in one hotel and giving a blanket ban is irresponsible.”

On his part, national secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal, Alhassan Saleh, said:

“The governors are confused and mischievous, are herders the problem of this country? Are they IPOB killing people up and down, burning police stations?”

Recall that Anaedoonline.ng had reported that the governors of southern states in Nigeria on Tuesday, May 11 called on President Muhammadu Buhari to convoke a national dialogue. The governors made this known in a communique reported by Anaedoonline.ng at the end of their meeting hosted by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta in Asaba, the state capital The communiqué which was read by the chairman of Southern Governors Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state, noted that prevailing insecurity in the country had presented severe security challenges such that citizens were unable to live normal lives, including pursuing productive activities.
