A woman, popularly known as Perpe from Agulizigbo, Anaocha Local Government of Anambra State but resident in Nnewi Anambra State has been nabbed for Child Trafficking and Sales of Children by the Nnewi Central Vigilante.
The incident took place yesterday at Uruagu Nnewi.
Giving an insight into what happened, the Chairman of Nnewi Central Vigilante and President General of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, Chief Dr. Atueyi Maduka said: “This is just part of the work we are doing here. This woman that was brought here is somebody that we have been looking for for the past 6 days in respect of Child Trafficking and Sales, but she ran away.
“I later got an Intelligence Report that she was coming back to pick her properties. And I asked some of my Operatives to mount surveillance on her and if possible sleep there to get her arrested. So of my Operatives hid around that area.
“Later one Sienna vehicle pulled up, another pulled up and when the third one pulled up, I ordered my boys to go in and make the arrest. I told them that as soon as they were arrested their phones should be collected from them and 4 of them were arrested.
Vigilante man stabs civilian to death
“From Intelligence Report, they saw about 9 pregnant, Girls there and after interrogation, one of them decided to take them to Ukpor. On getting to Ukpor, as soon as they saw my Operatives, they started running, but we were able to rescue 3 of the Girls.
“One of them said she gave birth through Caesarian operations, but they told her that her baby had died. One of the girls now confessed that the baby was not dead but, has been sold. We have arrested a number of people including a Lab Tech.
“Once we get all of them arrested we’ll take all of them to State CID Awka because I’m tired of working with all these Local Policemen. I have called them, but up till now none of them has shown up. I have called the Commissioner of Police, I have also called my Stakeholders and the Chairman of Nnewi North Security Trust Fund. Hon Patrick Ubajaka.
“I called him because he an interest in this matter. Another reason is that whenever we have this kind of case and take it to them, soon, they get freed because of the “return” and they come back to start threatening our lives. We are still on it because some Reverend Fathers and Reverend Sisters are involved in it. It is a very powerful syndicate.”
