LATEST: Distillery Worker Lands In Trouble For Stealing N4,800 Gin

A casual staff member, Taiwo Shodipe, on Monday appeared in a Magistrates’ Court in Ota, Ogun State, for allegedly stealing 12 packs of dry gin.

The items, worth N4,800, belong to the Nigeria Distillery Limited. The police have charged Shodipe with theft.

The prosecution officer, Insp. E. O. Adaraloye, said the defendant committed the offence on June 23 at about 5 p.m.

He disclosed that a security guard caught the 28-year-old with sachet packs of Seaman’s gin. The matter was reported to the police at the Sango-Ota division.

The offence contravened the provisions of Section 390(6) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006. Shodipe pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate A. O. Adeyemi admitted him to bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety must be gainfully employed. Adeyemi adjourned the case until July 7.
