The Senate panel that screened President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie and five others nominated for national commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission will submit its report to the plenary on Tuesday.

The Senate Committee on INEC had screened Onochie, Prof. Muhammad Sani Kallah, Prof. Kunle Cornelius Ajayi, Saidu Babura Ahmad, Prof. Sani Muhammad Adam and Dr Baba Bila last Thursday

The nomination of Onochie by President Buhari had sparked outrage from the opposition who argued that she is partisan to be a commissioner.

She was also accused of being a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress.

Onochie, however, claimed that she stopped being a member of any political party since 2019.

A member of the panel, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, during the screening had suggested that Onochie be placed on oath to swear that she did not belong to any political party.

Other members opposed the suggestion, who noted that putting Onochie on oath was against the Senate rule.

The Senate Committee Chairman, Senator Kabiru Gaya, said his committee would look at all the documents before the panel, sieve them, take a decision on the nominees and forward its recommendations to the Senate.
