The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that there is no truth in rumours that the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel is making clandestine moves to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Akwa Ibom PDP moved to quash the rumours on Monday after a chieftain of the APC who is the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang claimed a defection by the governor to the ruling party is close.

While speaking at a radio station last Saturday, Enang had claimed Governor Emmanuel is planning to join the APC.

But countering the claim on Monday, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Akwa Ibom, Mr Borono Bassey said there was no iota of truth in the defection claims.

He said in a chat with Newsmen that the APC truly wish the Akwa Ibom governor will join their party because of his developmental strides but unfortunately, it is a dream that can never materialize.

He said “the truth is that the Governor has said it over and over again and as a party, we have made releases that the Governor is not going anywhere. I like to think that people just want to draw attention to themselves because they know that people will be interested in hearing about this.

“I understand too that when you think of the fact that the Governor, Udom Emmanuel is a performing Governor, the APC would want to have someone like him to validate themselves because everyone knows that they are a failure and they will need someone that is performing to come over.”
