Meet Sun’s Industrialist Of The Year: Silent Igbo Billionaire

Obi Cubana was not the only Igbo illustrious son that bagged an award at the just concluded Sun Awards, Ebuka Onunkwo, CEO of Seahorse Lubricants Industries Limited was named Industrialist of the Year.

HRM, Dr. Ebuka Onunkwo, is not a popular name out there but he is very renowned in his field. The philanthropist and CEO is an Anambra-born entrepreneur from Ihembosi, Anambra State. According to his media team, in February 2015, when he was still importing Engine oil from Turkey, his partners went bankrupt and could no longer supply the goods he paid for worth $3.2m already remitted.

This ugly incident became a blessing in disguise, changed the narrative as the young importer transitioned into manufacturing by building his blending plant called Seahorse Lubricants Industries in Ozubulu, Anambra State, Nigeria.

Before now, the brand Seahorse Lubricants Industries has won so many awards which include the best oil of the year award in 2021 and a host of other awards.

For these and many other entrepreneurial exploits, the Anambra-born billionaire was considered a deserving winner of this year’s Sun Newspaper industrialist of the year award.

Worthy to note that the new industrialist of the year awardee rose from being a retailer to a wholesaler, from a wholesaler to an importer, from importation to a manufacturer.

The award was presented to him by Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, wife of the late Igbo leader.
