The Lagos State Ministry of Education has ordered the closure of Unic Vilos Montessori after a child suffered 24 cane strokes.

In an interview with Channels, Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo, revealed that the ministry ordered the school’s closure after verifying the story.

The decision was made when it was revealed that the school, which is housed within an elementary school, runs without permission, according to her.

The victim’s family reportedly lives opposite the school, in which the proprietress and the teacher who allegedly gave 24 strokes of the cane lives in too.

Following the ordeal, Folashade confirmed that a combined team of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, the Domestic Violence and Response Unit, and the Ministry of Youths and Social Development, arrested the teacher and proprietress on Monday.

While the proprietress was released earlier in the week, the teacher is still in detention.
