Gunmen Invade Funeral In Anambra, Kill 20, Desecrate Corpse

Armed men suspected of belonging to a hidden cult attacked a funeral ritual in Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra State, on Saturday, murdering over 20 people.

We learned that the funeral was for a suspected cult leader named Ozo, and that as the body of Ozo lay in state in his property, several suspected cultists arrived and attacked mourners, firing at them.

“My sister was scheduled to be at the burial,” according to a source who spoke to Newsmen.
She and her pals had planned to go from Awka to Ebenebe, but the car they had reserved failed to meet their expectations.

“She and her pals were so dissatisfied that they decided to look for another vehicle that could transport them.”

They received a phone call while on their way to the funeral that everyone at the burial had been dispersed by several shooters.

“She also received a video from the site, which showed numerous people dead in pools of blood, while the corpse was desecrated, with the coffins laying far apart, and the corpse stretched on the ground.”

Some members of the group were seen crying on camera, while bodies littered the complex.

The event was verified by the Anambra State Police Command, who described it as a case of cult rivalry.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who spoke to reporters, said: “Yes, this morning (Saturday), there was an incident at Ebenebe. A burial was going on, when some people suspected to be cultists invaded the area and started shooting.

“I do not have details of casualties now, but I will keep you informed once the picture becomes clear.

“For now, the Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng has despatch tactical squads comprising of various units to the area to maintain calm,” he said.
