LATEST: Unknown Gunmen Attack Catholic Priest In Enugu

Unidentified gunmen are said to have attacked a priest from the Enugu Catholic Diocese, Rev Fr. Bartholomew Nnanyelugo Chime.

According to accounts, the priest was on a pastoral assignment on March 4 when he was attacked by armed individuals.

“He said he didn’t have any money.” They took his phone and shot him in the leg before loading him into the trunk of his car and driving away. They dropped him into the woods and drove away with his car until they arrived at the former tollgate on the Enugu-Onitsha Road.

“He climbed out of the bush and shouted for rescue before, thanks to God’s particular favor.”
Those who spotted him brought him to the hospital, where he is being treated.”

Rev Fr Benjamin Achi, the Communication Director, Enugu Catholic Diocese, confirming the incident said that there has been an influx in insecurity in Enugu state.

He said: “The hoodlums accosted father, searched him and asked him to give them money but he told them he didn’t have money. So, they shot him on the leg and took him somewhere and dumped him inside the bush and left.

“We give God all the glory that Fr Chime survived the onslaught because he was badly shot. Currently, he is responding to treatment in a hospital.”
