Olusegun Obasanjo, the former President of Nigeria, has stated his support for an Igbo presidency in 2023.

While visiting a presidential contender for 2023, Mao Ohuabunwa, on Thursday in Abeokuta, Obasanjo said it was time for Nigeria to reconcile by supporting a president from the Southeast area in 2023.

Former President Jimmy Carter noted that if elected, southeasterners can offer a lot to the table.

“I feel that Southeasterners can model hard work and business, in addition to providing unity to Nigeria or being the cement that keeps Nigeria together.”

“This would contribute in the production of wealth and the battle against poverty in Nigeria,” Obasanjo remarked.

He cautioned Ohuabunwa that running for President is a difficult undertaking.
