On Thursday, the Rivers State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress swore not to back Governor Nyesom Wike’s presidential ambitions.

Wike, according to the state chapter of the union, does not care about the state’s public workers and retirees.

NLC wondered whether the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential ambitions are intended to murder all workers in the country.

Beatrice Itubo, the state chairman of the National Liberation Council, claimed this during an interview on Rhythm 93.7 FM in Port Harcourt.

Itubo accused the Rivers State Governor of putting employees and pensioners in the state through unimaginable misery.

Workers should vote for politicians who would take care of their needs in the 2023 general election, according to the NLC Chairman.

“We have witnessed what is going on in Rivers State,” she remarked. Since the start of this government, pensioners have not received their gratuities. Since the start of this administration, no one has been promoted.

“Even the schools and hospitals in the secretariat are deserted.” There are no employees, and many are unemployed.

“Do you need a fortune teller to inform you?” We’re all aware of it, just as I am.

“They (workers) should come all out during the 2023 elections and vote for the candidates of their choice, who will be able to take the welfare of workers as a first charge. That is exactly what we are saying.

“That is the essence of this sensitization that we are in too. Charity they say begins at home. Let him (Wike) come home and pay retirees their gratuities, pay pension arrears, promote workers and then employ them.

“The system is empty. It is not just to run from here and then you want to go to Abuja. There in Abuja, will you kill all the workers in Nigeria? Let him start the whole thing here (Rivers) so that we can give him the support. Without that, he will not have my support.
