The decision on the defection of Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been placed on hold by Justice Taiwo Oladipupo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

On Wednesday, Justice Taiwo placed the ruling on hold after Governor Ayade’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, claimed in a letter to be directing the court’s attention to a judgment of the Court of Appeal rendered in Enugu.

The judge instructed the plaintiff’s counsel to speak to him about the consequences of the appeal court’s decision in this case.

The judge was supposed to pronounce the verdict this morning before the letter was presented.

At the time of filing this report, Emmanuel Ukala for PDP, which instituted the case against Ayade, was addressing the court.

Justice Taiwo directed the counsel to Ayade to make a case for him while the lawyer to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will follow.

Meanwhile, legal fireworks have been ignited by lawyers in the defection suit.

There are no signs that the judge would deliver the judgment after being addressed by the lawyers.
