Despite a prior pledge, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has failed to congratulate Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate.

Wike had promised to back any contestant who emerged as the poll winner when speaking to the delegates, stating that he is a dedicated PDP member who loves the party.

“Let me vow, today, anybody who emerges here, I will support the person to the fullest because I am a committed party person, because I love this party, because, since 1998, I have been in this party and worked for this party, I am not going anywhere, This is my party,” he had said.

Atiku competed against Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and ten other candidates.

But, just as delegates were about to begin voting, Tambuwal dropped out of the contest and supported Atiku.

Saraki, on the other hand, congratulated Atiku on Twitter immediately after the former vice president was declared the election winner.
