Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President, may not be returning to the Senate since the state’s youth leader, Bashir Machina, has refused to resign and hand over the senatorial ticket to him.

Lawan was one of the hopefuls for the APC presidential ticket, however he was defeated in the primary election, with Bola Tinubu, the party’s National Leader, emerging as the Flagbearer.

Machina was the only candidate in the Yobe North APC senatorial primary, with other candidates who expressed interest being instructed not to run so that Machina could keep the Lawan ticket if he lost the presidential election.

According to reports, Mustapha Salihu, the APC’s National Vice Chairman for the North East, is directing all attempts to recover Lawan’s ticket, but he has disputed this.

“I don’t intervene with local party arrangements in states,” he told media. Yobe has its own distinct approach to primaries, which is widely accepted.

“All aspirants who obtained the party’s nomination forms nationwide have filled the withdrawal forms, which is a clear consent to withdraw in case of any superior interest, and with the consent of the party stakeholders in the state.”
