The coalition between the Labour Party and the New Nigeria People’s Party has disintegrated, according to Doyin Okupe, director of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign.

The temporary running partner for Peter Obi of the LP, Okupe, announced this on Tuesday’s Channels Television Politics program.

The intended partnership, he noted, failed because Rabiu Kwankwaso insisted on being the presidential standard bearer despite Muhammadu Buhari, a northern Muslim of the same ancestry, being close to serving an eight-year term in office.

He continued, saying that LP is now considering a young running mate of northern ancestry while noting that Obi penetration in the north is only about 20%, necessitating the need to find a young, energetic northerner as a running mate.

He added that Kwankwaso was misusing the idea that age confers a leadership advantage in politics.

Kwankwaso, he continued, does not have the same level of national popularity as Obi.

“That doesn’t answer the question the youths are asking.

“The alliance between LP and NNPP is dead over four weeks,” he said.

Okupe said it was NNPP that was trying to leverage on the popularity of Peter Obi.
