If Peter Obi wins the 2023 presidential election, Comrade Che Oyinatumba, a former chairman of the Labour Party’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja chapter, claims that Obi will leave the party and join another.

In order to do this, he urged Nigerians to back Omoyele Sowore, the AAC’s presidential candidate, rather than Peter Obi.

He further asserted that, in contrast to popular opinion, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership is not endorsing the former governor of Anambra State’s bid for the presidency.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Oyinatumba stated his arguments on a show last Friday in Abuja and reiterated them over the phone to Punch on Tuesday.

In his view, Nigerians should “do what they are doing to support Obi for Sowore instead.”

“If we are saying it is the structure and getting the workers to mobilise and build Labour Party, we can do the same for Sowore who has a legal tendency to what we believe in than this capitalist called Peter Obi.”

“Now we can agree that if Obi wins this election, he would leave. It would be easier and more manageable for us to rally round a Sowore and his party, or bring him to the Labour Party and give him the structure,” Onyinatumba said.

He added that while wanting other states to mobilize for the Labour Party, the NLC leadership was supporting an All Progressives Congress candidate for governor in Kebbi State, showing that they were not serious about regaining the Labour Party and backing its candidates.

He asserted that the NLC officials are merely acting in their own self-interest.

“It is not true that the Nigerian Labour Congress is reclaiming the Labour Party,” he said, questioning why “the NLC would be supporting APC in Kebbi and asking other states to mobilise for Labour Party.”

“The NLC/Trade Union Congress is headed by those who do not share our sentiment. The NLC is led by those who are looking for jobs and are using Trade Union as a pensionable job, so they are not interested in claiming anything,” he had added in the video that went viral where he spoke last Friday during an event in honour of a late veteran activist, Segun Sango.
