A wave of criticism followed Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, when he decided to run a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 elections. As a result, important party figures left the organization.

Recall that on Sunday in Daura, Katsina State, after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC’s Bola Tinubu, revealed his choice of Senator Kashim Shettima, the former governor of Borno State, as his running mate.

Despite widespread opposition from Nigerians, the ruling party’s decision to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election was practically confirmed by the statement.

Senator Ishaku Abbo

Ishaku Abbo, a senator from the Adamawa North senatorial district, resigned from a Tinubu Support organization after calling Bola Tinubu’s choice of a Muslim as his running partner unwise.

During a conversation with the Peoples Gazette on Monday, the congressman reiterated his position.

Abbo said, “For Tinubu now to be given the ticket and turn around to do what he couldn’t achieve in 2015 despite opposition from Catholics and other Christian leaders is extremely irresponsible.”

He further stated, “Buhari fought a civil war and understands the consequences of a divided nation. When Tinubu wanted to be VP in 2015, Buhari said no because he understood the importance of unity.”
