Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, will welcome Ibrahim Shekarau, a senator from Kano Central, back to the PDP today (Sunday).
In the run-up to the 2019 elections, the former governor of Kano State switched from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shekarau was chosen to serve in the Senate on the APC platform; however, after a falling out with the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, he defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Shekarau Speaks On How Kwankwaso Humiliated Him During His Time In NNPP
Shekarau, who won a return seat on the NNPP platform, was a member of the party for a short period of time before his friendship with Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate, soured.
The Kano State PDP Chairman, Shehu Wada Sagagi while reacting to Shekarau’s plan to join the party, said plans have been put in place for Atiku to receive him
Sagagi while speaking with Newsmen said, “Alhamdulillah, finally, we now have a leader in Kano and I am delighted. Shekarau, being the highest political office holder as provided by the constitution, has accepted and we have welcomed him back to our dear party, the PDP.
“All arrangements are in top gear in preparation to receive Atiku Abubakar who will be in Kano on Sunday, hopefully, to receive Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau. We have accepted to follow him and we shall succeed, God willing.”
