Despite the turmoil inside the party, Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been urged not to quit by the sociopolitical organization Benue Advocates for Good Governance (BAGG).

According to Anaedoonline.ng, certain party officials, particularly those who support Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, have requested that Ayu resign because the party’s presidential candidate is from the North.

In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in response to the development and signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Terngu Aze, and its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Taiyol Terhemba Abraham, the organization complimented Ayu’s bravery for continuing to serve as the party’s chairman.

They characterized those clamoring for Ayu’s resignation as ignorant victims as well as desperate agents of destabilization.

The statement reads: “We stand by the decision of the PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, to stay on in the office. It’s a decision that is borne out of courage, pragmatism and constitutionalism.

“We make bold to say those calling for his resignation are not only sponsored agents of destabilization, but they are also victims of their ignorance.

“Besides, how can you say you want peace, and you come to the table with preconditions? They say Ayu must resign for them before they can discuss.

“Is that how to seek peace? Is that not a declaration of war on the party?”
