Alh. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate for the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), was jeered on Wednesday in Kogi State as he made an effort to win over Prince Abubakar Audu’s supporters.

When Kwakwaso visited Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, he was attacked with stones and sachet water.

A faction of the NNPP welcomed the NNPP presidential candidate back to Lokoja hostilely after the candidate visited the late Prince Abubakar Audu’s country estate in Ogbonicha. This faction believed the presidential candidate gave the late Prince Audu’s supporters who had recently defected to the NNPP in the state too much attention.

While waiting in Lokoja since the wee hours, several of the members complained to journalists that the presidential candidate had abandoned them in favor of Audu’s supporters, who they claimed were still APC members (APC).

Angry fans yelled down the NNPP presidential candidate as he arrived in a motorcade with few followers.

Security guards had to work hard to get him to a well-known hotel in the center of the city where he could be safe.

The behaviour of the supporters was justified as “typical in politics” by a media adviser to Kwankwaso who went by the name Musa Yunusa and said that Kogi is the home of the NNPP presidential candidate.
