Since the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis began, Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, has sided with the camp of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
Anaedoonline.ng discovered that Ortom is backing Wike as a result of his participation in persuading the governor of Rivers to back Iyorchia Ayu for the position of national chairman of the party.
According to a source who talked with Tribune, Governor Ortom had requested Wike to put his trust in Ayu to manage the party.

However, the insider claimed that the crisis began as soon as Ayu became the party’s National Chairman.
According to reports, Governor Wike alerted Ortom about the situation and said that if it weren’t for Ortom’s request, he would not have wanted Ayu to become president.
The source said, “Ortom singlehandedly took Ayu to Wike and Wike asked Ortom, ‘can we trust this man?’ And Ortom said yes. After his emergence when the crisis started, Wike asked Ortom, ‘can you see what this man is doing? Can you see what I told you that time?
“The Wike’s group resolves that Ayu must go. Ayu did not contest the election to become the national chairman of PDP. It was Ortom that went to bring him even though people like (ex-Benue State governor, Gabriel) Suswam warned against it.”
