Tomide Akinribid, a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, has urged Nigerians to stand up for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo after it was reported that he had declined to join Bola Tinubu’s campaign committee.

Osinabjo’s name was omitted from the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) list that was made public on Friday, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

The council said that President Muhammadu Buhari had directed that the Vice President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, be left off in response to the comments that followed Osinbajo’s name being removed from the list.

Festus Keyamo, the spokesman, claimed that Buhari gave the order to prevent the duo from being sidetracked from their primary responsibility of governing.

Akinribido responded to the development via a tweet, alleging that the APC was attempting to hide the truth in response to criticism of its same faith ticket.

He questioned why Buhari pardoned the two top government figures who are Christians.

He said, “Is it a coincidence that the top two Christians in the government and party hierarchy, Vice-President and SGF, are excluded from the campaign council of a rejected Muslim-Muslim ticket?

“The Christian community must stand in solidarity with Osinbajo and reject the disastrous APC Muslim-Muslim ticket.”

The PDP chieftain praised Osinbanjo for refusing to participate in Tinubu’s campaign council as he noted that such a descusion takes a lot of courage.

He called on Nigerians to ensure that the VP is protected.

“VP Osinbajo was approached to play a prominent role in the APC campaign team, especially among the Christian community.

“He declined and stated that he cannot do such in good conscience. Whether Laolu Akande debunks this does not matter. Prof himself knows this is this is the truth,” he added.
