Man Sets Self Ablaze In Osun Over Alleged Abuse By His Wife Of Two Months

According to reports, Muritala Afolabi, an individual from Osun State, is currently recovering in the hospital after attempting suicide by setting himself ablaze.

According to reports, the inhabitant of Iree bought some gasoline from the gas station, went outside on Friday, and ignited himself on fire.

However, while the fire was still burning, nearby neighbours heard Afolabi screaming in pain and came to his aid. Upon observing the severity of his wounds, the locals hurriedly transported him to the hospital in Iree.

Afolabi, who claimed he was a vulcaniser, described his story to Newsmen on Sunday from his sick bed. He said he chose suicide because his wife had tortured him emotionally and had become frustrated with him.

The 30-year-old artisan told the reporters that they got married in July 2022 and since then, the woman had been unfair to him with her insults and curses.

“I just thought of ending it. That Friday, I went into a filing station, bought fuel and went to a forest behind Baptist High School, Iree, and set myself ablaze.

“I thought of what I was passing through and it made me to decide to end my life. Poverty and repeated curses of my wife made me to lose hope. I married the woman just in July this year.

“Some people heard me when fire was burning my body and rushed to the scene. They rescued me and brought me to hospital,” the news platform quoted the victim as saying.

When contacted on the phone, Muritala’s wife, Ifedolapo, reportedly denied cursing her husband saying she doesn’t know why he decided to kill himself.

“I am his wife. I am yet to have any child for him,” she said.
