The Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA) has received a certificate of recognition and registration from the Muhammadu Buhari-led Government in the middle of the crisis in the education sector.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, CONUA is a split off group from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

On Tuesday, Chris Ngige, the minister of labor and employment, gave the certificate to the CONUA leadership on behalf of the government.

Niyi Sunmonu, a lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, is reportedly in charge of CONUA.

Ngige additionally gave the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics a certificate of registration (NAMDA).

Since February 14th, ASUU has been on strike because the Federal Government has not complied with its demands.

The university was ordered to resume operations by the National Industrial Court on September 21, but the striking lecturers have persisted.
