2023 Budget: See How Much Buhari, Osinbajo Will Spend On Food, Foreign Trips

A N20.51 trillion budget proposal for 2023 was made by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday during a joint session of the National Assembly.

The budget for 2023 is almost N750 billion more than the N19.76 trillion that was first suggested in the 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper.

For domestic and international travel as well as the presidential aviation fleet, President Buhari and the Vice President’s office would spend N11.92 billion.

The sum also includes N1.60 billion for the overhaul of the Gulfstream GV and CL605 aircraft engines and N1.58 billion designated for aircraft maintenance.

According to the appropriations bill, the President’s office will spend N2.49 billion on domestic and international travel, compared to Yemi Osinbajo’s office’s N846.61 million expenditure.

The government will spend N250m on aircraft fuel, N1.50bn on air navigational and defense equipment, and N650m on a new mobile helicopter landing pad.

Bank fees will cost N36.15m, while N180m is projected to go toward insurance premiums for the fleet’s 10 aircraft.

The PAF has maintained 10 aircraft since 2015, according to the Presidency, which is part of the National Security Advisor’s office.

These include a Boeing Business Jet (Boeing 737-800 or NAF 001), two Falcons 7X, one Hawker Siddeley 4000, two AgustaWestland AW 139 helicopters, and two AgustaWestland AW 101 helicopters. There is also a Gulfstream 550 and a Gulfstream V (Gulfstream 500).

However, not all of the funds will be specifically for flights.

The construction and outfitting of a new presidential kitchen and crew rest area was budgeted for at N40.45 million; a fleet defense coordination center was budgeted for at N80.50 million; the PAF Lagos warehouse was budgeted at N120 million; six units (each with four bedrooms) for senior officers were budgeted for at N100.75 million; and one marauder vehicle was budgeted for at N100.45 million.

Additionally, both offices will spend a combined N508,71m on food and beverages. For the positions of President and Vice-President, the amounts are N331.79 million and N176.92 million, respectively.

The fiscal budgets for 2022 and 2023 were compared more closely, and a 54.64 percent drp in the PAF allocations.

For instance, in 2022, the PAF budget was N12.48 billion, which is 54.64% more than the N8.07 billion allotted for the 2023 fiscal year.

22 items in the 2022 budget request were marked as either new or ongoing projects.
These things cost N8.13 billion.

Only nine items totaling N3.44 billion were classified as new or ongoing in the 2023 plan, nevertheless.
