The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari filed an appeal on Wednesday against the Abuja Court of Appeal’s decision to release Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu last week.

Despite the request to free him, the Federal Government brought the IPOB leader before the Supreme Court.

The FG requested a stay of execution of the Court of Appeal’s judgment from October 13 that discharged Kanu in its petition to the Supreme Court.

The office of Abubakar Malami, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), submitted the request for a stay of execution.

In its seven-ground notice of appeal, the Federal Government criticized the Court of Appeal’s decision and requested that the Supreme Court reverse it.

The Court of Appeal erred in criticizing how Kanu was brought back to stand trial after he escaped bail and left the nation, the President Buhari-led administration claims.

It further argued that the Court of Appeal erred when it dismissed the charges against Kanu on the grounds that the trial court lacked the necessary jurisdiction to carry on with the case as a result of the way Kanu was reportedly brought to the nation after jumping bail.

There is no set time for the motion’s hearing for a stay of execution.
