The administration of the Appeal Court has replaced three of the justices who were on the bench that overturned the 15-count terrorism charge the Federal Government brought against Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
According to Anaedoonline.ng, the Muhammadu Buhari-led government was criticized for ‘abducting’ the IPOB from Kenya by Justices Jummai Hanatu Sankey, Oludotun Adetope-Okojie, and Ebiowei Tobi.
Justice Oludotun Adebola, who delivered the lead judgment on October 13th, determined that the Federal Government violated all national and international laws when it forcibly returned Kanu to Nigeria, rendering the terrorism allegations against him ineffective and illegal.

The court dismissed and overturned Kanu’s charges brought by the federal government.
The Appellate Court then declared Kanu not guilty of the charges.
According to Justice Adebola, the allegations against Kanu were rendered null and void since Nigeria failed to extradite Kanu in accordance with the law.
They also ruled that the Federal Government’s inability to reveal the locations and dates of the alleged crimes was fatal to the terrorist accusations and rendered them subject to dismissal.
However, the three justices were transferred from their respective divisions in a document dated October 17 and signed by Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, President of the Court of Appeal.

The message made clear that the justices’ new assignment took effect immediately and that they needed to report to their new posts by October 21.
In accordance with the memo, Justice Jummai Hanatu Sankey, who presided over the court’s proceedings and had previously served in the Gombe Division, has been moved to the Awka Division, while Justice Oludotun Adetope-Okojie, who gave the lead judgment, has been transferred to Owerri and Justice Ebiowei Tobi, the third member of the court panel, has been moved to Gombe.
