The Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN) and the Lagos Government will meet on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing strike.

Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

Despite the association’s lack of membership with any of the state’s transport unions, Giwa said that a meeting with it was held on Friday, October 28, and another was planned for Wednesday.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the drivers started a seven-day strike on Monday over claims of extortion by the state’s vehicle park and garage administration.

Many commuters in the state had been left stuck for hours as a result of the development, which also caused a fare increase by available bus drivers.

In order to address the problems brought up by the association, the state administration, according to Giwa, was already looking into the demands of the drivers.

The outcome of the second meeting, which is expected to take place on Wednesday, will be made public knowledge, according to the governor’s adviser.

Giwa cautioned individuals increasing transportation costs in order to take advantage of the strike to stop doing so immediately or face the repercussions of their unlawful behavior.

He therefore urged his members to go about their regular business fearlessly since security agencies have been instructed to uphold law and order.

The statement reads: “He explained that sequel to the announcement by JDWAN to embark on a seven-day strike starting from 31st October 2022, the State Government, through the Ministry of Transportation, had invited its leadership to a meeting on Friday, 28th October 2022, despite its non-affiliation to any of the transport unions, such as NURTW and RTEAN, known to the State.

“According to him, most of the union members at the meeting were from the Badagry axis and it was resolved that the meeting be adjourned till Wednesday, November 2, 2022, to have a larger house, which will include representatives of other recognised unions with a view to resolving the matter amicably.
