Alhaji Muhammed Sa’ eed Abubakar III, Sultan of Sokoto, has voiced worry that some Fulani people are participating in banditry and kidnapping, generating insecurity in sections of the country.

He stated that banditry and kidnapping had severely harmed economic operations and the general well-being of Nigerians, resulting in the country’s current suffering.

The Sultan, who is also the President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), spoke at the weekend’s inauguration and swearing-in of new Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria executives at the National Mosque Abuja, and urged the group’s leadership to support the government’s and stakeholders’ efforts to ensure peace in the country.

The threat to divide the country, according to the Sultan, arose from some things Nigerians were not performing correctly; as a result, some Nigerians do not feel a feeling of belonging in the country’s affairs.

According to him, “People do not want to know the history of this great country. If we had known the history of the Fulani movement in various parts of the world definitely, we would not have gotten to the situation we are in now.”

He went on to say that Fulani go from one place to another, that they intermarry and are peaceful, and that certain Fulani children are involved in banditry and kidnapping.

He stated that when the Fulani executives meet, they will discuss how to address the matter, stating that Nigerians cannot sit down and divide the country into factions because of certain things “we are not doing correctly.”

Sultan Condemn Southern Kaduna killings

According to the monarch, after more than 48 years of existence, there is a need for some new inputs and thoughts into the constitution; they also require funding to support their activities.

The President-General of the NSCIA urged MACBAN executive members to reposition the organization in response to developing modern concerns confronting the Fulbe both within and outside Nigeria.

He stated that MACBAN’s presence throughout the country and the Sahel should aim to balance the insecurity in Nigeria and the Sahel for the progress of humanity.

He believed MACBAN could do so by articulating a Fulbe perspective in response to the current level of violence, which he saw as a natural reaction to the Fulbe’s deprivation, marginalization, and balkanization into many West African nation-states.
