The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that Nigerians who have previously registered for a Permanent Voters Card (PVC) would not be issued new cards.

Obo Effanga, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, stated this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, in response to complaints from certain Nigerians who have been unable to collect their PVCs since the Commission commenced distribution for new registrants.

“Remember that before now INEC had issued information that those who attempted to do multiple registrations, subsequent registrations were cancelled. Some of these persons who said they didn’t collect their cards actually fall under that and they won’t tell you that’s what happened,” Effanga said.

The INEC REC questioned some persons who claimed they were instructed to check back for their PVCs in January 2023, saying there were a few instances when the cards were not accessible and the people impacted were just told to check back.

He stated that INEC is still expecting a few more cards this week and next.

INEC commenced PVC distribution across Nigeria on Monday and plans to end it on Sunday, January 22, 2023. The exercise is part of the commission’s planning for the general elections in 2023.

In most PVC collection centers across the country, large numbers of intending voters have turned up.

INEC has been encouraging all eligible voters to obtain their PVCs since only those who have them will be able to vote in the 2023 general elections.
