Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has clarified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state, Siminialayi Fubara’s, candidacy.

According to news reports, the governor stated that Fubara is the genuine PDP candidate in the state.

Speculations that he might be replaced are, he claims, only rumors spread by individuals he calls plotters against the state’s interests.

Wike made the clarification at the PDP campaign flag-off event for Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, which took place on Tuesday at the Ogu Mini Stadium in Rivers State.

He added that he needed to clarify the air since rumors were circulating regarding Fubara being replaced as the PDP candidate in the state.

The reaction, he said, is in response to the Supreme Court’s dismissal of an appeal filed by Farah Dagogo, who claimed to be the PDP governorship candidate in Rivers State, on Tuesday.

The governor, however, reiterated that there is no dispute over Fubara’s candidacy, adding that plotters against the state should be aware that he is always one step ahead, so they, too, should return home to carry out their plan.

Wike stated that “Supreme Court dismissed the appeal by Farah. I can tell you there is nothing we do not know about what they want to plot from the up. If you plot finish, come down and implement it.”

The governor further stated that Dr Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP national chairman, was lying about one of the G-5 governors visiting him at his residence.

Wike stated that neither he nor any other G-5 governor visited Ayu’s residence, saying that this is not the first time such allegations have been made, but that the G-5 governors will win the struggle in the PDP in the end.

“Nobody can blackmail us. We’ll never go and meet anybody. We are who we are. This is not the first time we have battled. This battle we will win at the end of the day,” he added.

According to news reports, Wike and four other disgruntled PDP governors have constantly requested Ayu’s resignation as a condition for supporting PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
