Kashim Shettima, the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice presidential candidate, has stated that Northerners are not interested in supporting him due to his ethnicity.

Borno State’s former governor claimed that Northerners were refusing to support him because of his Kanuri ethnic ancestry.

According to Newsmen, Shettima mentioned this during a visit to the Emir of Daura in Katsina State.

According to the APC vice presidential candidate, there are persons from the North who are not Hausa but have gone on to benefit the region.

He said, “People are saying that I’m not Hausa. We have had people from the north who are not Hausa and they benefitted the north. Umar Musa Yar’adua, Buhari, and others are examples.

“I’m not Hausa, but I am Fulani-blood-related. I’m a Kanuri also, and I have benefit the north than the other.”

He went on to say that northerners in states dominated by Hausa and Fulani people were refusing to support him.

In Hausa, Shettima remarked of Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, “Ours is ours, but our man who does not help us cannot be termed ours.”

Following that, the former Borno State governor challenged the crowd to show him what Atiku done for the region during his eight years as vice president that merited their vote.
