2023 Elections: FG Directs Closure Of All Polytechnics

The federal government announced on Monday that all polytechnics in the country would be closed owing to the upcoming general elections in 2023.

This comes just a week after the National Universities Commission (NUC) announced a three-week closure of all universities to allow students, teachers, and workers to use their voting rights.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, directed the closure of all polytechnics in a letter dated February 10, 2023 and signed by I.O Folorunsho.

In a letter made public on Monday, the minister addressed it to Idris Bugaje, executive secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The mandate, according to the letter, should be sent to rectors and provosts of all polytechnics.

It was stated that academic activities would be stopped between February 22 and March 14.

The letter reads, “In view of concerns expressed on the security of staff, students, and properties of our respective institutions, the minister of education, Adamu Adamu, has, following extensive consultations with the relevant security agencies, directed that all polytechnics be shut down.

“And academic activities will be suspended between Wednesday, Feb.22 and Tues. March 14, 2023.”

The country’s presidential election will be place in 13 days and will include eligible voters from all throughout the country.
