Barrister Julius Abure, National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), denied on Monday that the Southwest branch of the party had merged with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The National reported earlier that the LP in the SouthWest had aligned with the APC ahead of the 2023 general election.

According to reports, the putative Southwest LP chairman, Omotoso Banji, led the party’s leadership to collapse its structure in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

However, in an interview with a Newsmen journalist, the party’s National Chairman dismissed the allegation as false.

According to Abure, the putative regional leader of the party, Banji was banned from the party decades ago for his involvement in anti-party actions.

He went on to say that because Banji is not an official of the LP, he cannot take such a posture or make such a decision on its behalf.

Abure questioned why the APC would rely on Banji’s prediction that the Labour Party’s structure in the region would collapse.

He said, “instead of the APC to go and redeemed their image and apologise to Nigerians for maladministration, they are looking for cheap publicity.

“Nigerians have been deceived before, they were deceived in 2015 and 2019, and they can’t be deceived again in 2023.

“The All Progressives Congress should go and redeem their image, and stop using someone we have expelled over the years, who is their member for propaganda.

“It is ridiculous and laughable for them to say they decamped in the Southwest, I dispel the report.”
