Actress In Prison Custody For Spraying Naira Notes At Party Gets N5Million Bail

Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, an actress arrested for tampering with naira notes, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Lagos.

On Wednesday, she was granted bail in the amount of N5 million, with one surety in the same amount.

The 31-year-old was detained after an online video showed her spraying and stepping on fresh naira notes at a party was shared.

The actress is shown in the video flashing wads of the newly redesigned naira notes.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Omoseyin on two counts before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Monday.

One of the counts reads, “That you Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin on the 28n day of January, 2023 at Monarch event center, Lekki within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court whilst dancing during a social occasion tampered with the sum of N100, 000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same in the said occasion and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

The second read, “That you Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin on the 28th day of January 2023 at Monarch event center, Lekki within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court whilst dancing during a social occasion tampered with the sum of N100, 000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by dancing on same in the said occasion and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”

She plead not guilty to the charge, but was remanded in prison.

In his judgement on her bail plea at the resumed hearing on Wednesday, Justice Chukwuejekwu Aneke admitted the actress to bail in the sum of N5 million with one surety in the same sum.

According to Justice Aneke, the surety in the civil service should be a Grade Level 12 or higher, with documentation of three years of tax payment, among other things.

The judge ordered that the actress be kept in Kirikiri jail until the bail terms were completed, and deferred the case until April 3 for trial.
