In an interview with Newsmen, an indigene of the area, Benjamin Nworie, whose wife escaped death during the incident, described how the gunmen entered the campaign grounds and began fire on party supporters.

According to Nworie, the shooter entered the area and began shooting intermittently while the supporters waited to go for their respective destinations.

He said, “It was around 5:30 pm on Saturday, February, that I received a distressed call from my wife, Eunice, that she was in trouble. Her emotions were high and palpitating profusely.

“She narrated to me that she was calling me from a bush where she scampered for safety, which I sent a rescue team from my nearby village. She was unhurt.”

Nworie, the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ebonyi branch, stated that the wife was brought to the location by the National President of the Ogboji General Assembly, John Anyalagu, his wife, and Emeka Nwusulor, his younger brother.
