Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has explained why he will not oppose Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom’s Senate bid.

Ortom is said to be the PDP’s contender for the Benue North-West senatorial district in the 2023 elections.

According to news reports, Ortom is one of the five disgruntled PDP governors known as the G5 governors who have refused to work for the party’s flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar.

The G5 governors contended that both Atiku and Ayu, as the party’s presidential candidate and national chairman, could not come from the same region, resulting in an unresolved dispute in the party leadership.

Despite the crisis, Ayu told reporters on Thursday at his Makurdi mansion that he would not work against Ortom “since he is a candidate of the party.”

As a result, he claims he can never work against his senatorial goal.

The three senators representing Benue in the National Assembly, Gabriel Suswam, Emmanuel Oker-Jev, and Abba Moro, have all endorsed Atiku, but Ortom has chosen to work for the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

While campaigning for his principal, the PDP national chairman stated that the emergence of Atiku can immediately change the fortunes of the country.

He urged Nigerians to consider the hardships they have through over the last eight years before voting for Atiku.
